Truckbud Driver Privacy Policy
Last Updated: April 16, 2026
About This Policy
Trualr Technologies Inc. carrying on business as Truckbud ("Truckbud," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Driver Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect from driver applicants and active drivers, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and what rights you have over your information.
We operate in Canada and handle personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation. Your consent to our data practices is obtained at the time of your driver application or account creation and is reaffirmed by your continued use of the Platform. For sensitive personal information — including background check data and real-time location data during active deliveries — we obtain your express consent at the time of your driver application through a separate acknowledgment. You may withdraw this consent at any time; however, withdrawal may affect your ability to operate on the Platform.
Who This Policy Covers
This policy applies to all individuals who apply to become a Truckbud driver, and to active drivers who operate on the Truckbud platform. This policy does not apply to customers who book deliveries — a separate privacy policy covers customer data.
What Personal Information We Collect
Information you give us directly
When you apply or operate on the Platform, we collect:
- Contact information — your first and last name, email address, and phone number.
- Identity information — your driver's licence details and province of issue.
- Vehicle information — your vehicle make, model, year, and licence plate.
- Insurance information — documentation confirming a business use endorsement covering delivery activities.
- Payout details — bank account or e-transfer information for earnings payments.
- Availability information — days and hours you are available for deliveries as provided in your application.
Information we collect automatically
When you use the Platform we automatically collect:
- Device information — including device type, operating system, and browser type.
- Usage data — including features used, time spent, and actions taken on the Platform.
- Location data — your location during active deliveries (see Driver-Specific Privacy Matters below).
- Log data — IP address, access times, and error logs.
Information from third parties
We may receive personal information about you from:
- Background check providers — criminal background and driving record information from third-party screening services.
- Motor vehicle registries — to verify licence and driving record information.
- Publicly available sources — to verify information you have provided.
Why We Collect Personal Information and How We Use It
We collect and use your personal information only for the purposes described below. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
To process and assess your application
We use the information you provide to verify your eligibility, conduct required background checks, and assess whether you meet the standards to operate on the Platform.
To operate the Platform
We use your information to manage your driver account, match you with delivery jobs, process your earnings, send job notifications, and provide operational support.
To process payments
We use your payout details to transfer your earnings after each completed delivery. We share necessary payment data with our third-party payment processor solely for this purpose.
To communicate with you
We use your contact information to send transactional messages — job notifications, dispatch updates, payment confirmations, and account alerts. These operational communications are required for use of the Platform.
To ensure safety and quality
We use information about your account activity, delivery history, ratings, and conduct to monitor platform safety, investigate complaints, and maintain service standards.
To comply with legal obligations
We may use and retain your personal information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, respond to lawful requests from government authorities, enforce our terms, and protect our legal rights.
Who We Share Personal Information With
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as described below.
- With customers. When you accept a delivery job, we share your first name, vehicle make and model, and estimated arrival information with the customer so they can identify their driver. We do not share your surname, home address, phone number, or financial details with customers.
- With service providers. We share personal information with trusted third-party providers including background check providers, payment processors, cloud hosting providers, and SMS and communications providers. These providers are permitted to use your information only to perform services for Truckbud.
- For legal and safety reasons. We may disclose personal information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, respond to a lawful request from a government authority, or protect the rights or safety of Truckbud, our users, or the public.
- In connection with a business transaction. If Truckbud is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify affected drivers of any such transfer.
Driver-Specific Privacy Matters
Background check information
Background check information is collected by a third-party provider and shared with Truckbud solely for the purpose of assessing driver eligibility. If your application is declined based on background check results, you have the right to know the basis for the decision and to dispute inaccurate information with the provider directly.
Location data
We collect location data from your device during active deliveries. This data is used to provide customers with real-time delivery tracking, to calculate distances for pricing purposes, and to investigate disputes or complaints. We do not continuously track your location outside of active delivery periods.
Earnings data
We retain records of your delivery history and earnings for accounting, tax reporting, and dispute resolution purposes. You may request an annual earnings summary at any time by contacting support@truckbud.ca.
Automated Decision-Making
The Platform uses automated processes to match drivers with delivery jobs based on factors including location, availability, and delivery requirements. Where an automated decision materially affects your account status — including deactivation or changes to your eligibility — you have the right to request a human review by contacting support@truckbud.ca.
Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy and to comply with our legal obligations:
- Driver account information is retained for the duration of your account and for up to seven years after account closure for legal and compliance purposes.
- Delivery records are retained for seven years for accounting and tax purposes.
- Background check information is retained for the duration of your driver eligibility assessment and as required by applicable law.
- Communications and support records are retained for three years.
Your Privacy Rights
Under PIPEDA and applicable Canadian privacy law you have the right to:
- Access. Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction. Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Withdrawal of consent. Withdraw your consent to our use of your personal information for purposes beyond what is strictly necessary to operate the Platform, subject to legal and contractual restrictions.
- Deletion. Request that we delete your personal information, subject to any legal obligation we have to retain it.
- Complaint. File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe we have handled your personal information improperly.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@truckbud.ca with "Privacy Request" in the subject line. We will respond within 30 days.
Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational security measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit, access controls, and regular security reviews. In the event of a breach that poses a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you within 72 hours of confirming the breach, in accordance with PIPEDA's breach of security safeguards notification requirements.
Cross-Border Data Transfers
Truckbud operates in Canada. Personal information may be stored or processed by our service providers in countries outside Canada, including the United States. When personal information is transferred outside of Canada, we ensure comparable protection through contractual data processing agreements. A current list of our key service providers is available at truckbud.ca/sub-processors.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will post the updated policy on our website and notify drivers through the Platform or by email where appropriate. Your continued use of the Platform after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
